Looking for info on the lanes from Grant City, Marion county, Gas city Indiana.

My Grandmother Margaret Louise Lane was born in Marion County Indiana in 1920. Died april 1963 in Fulton County Georgia. She was married to an Anthony Black from New Jrsey and a Lynn Hutchison of Michigan. she had a sister Alice, Who married a horton Mcquiffy from salt lick Kentucky. Also a possible sister Hazel lane cook. A brother John and maHybe a father John Lane. Other possible siblings were Ava or eva, Glendora. My father David Black I know was born in Martinsville Indiana in july 1946. Names associated on his babtism record where last name Harding, and a hurley. Margaret's mother I think may have been Agnes Lane, Agnes Stewart, and an agnes lentz. One of those may be a maiden name. Not much info than that. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Have you found Margaret Lane in the US census prior to her marriage?
Hi, Yes in the 1920 and 1930 census's from marion county Indiana. States she was born 1920. After the 1930 census it is like she disapered off the face of the earth until her death in fulton County Georgia in April of 1963. Under her last married name of hutchison. I know my dad's birth cert. says he was born in Martinsville, Indiana in July of 46 but I can't find any other record other than his birth cert. that he has. His 2 older siblings Anthony and amelia I believe where born in Bridgeton New Jersey. Amelia I know was born in 1936. Unfortunatly she just passed a few weeks ago. I had just missed her by a week. How disheartning that was. I was and still am so hoping to know anything about my grandmother, especially a picture. Curiosity..do I look like her, things like that.

Thank-you so much for all your help.

smiley Wow is all I can say. I just alway assumed her first name was Agnes as I did find her listed as mother of bride on Alice's marriage lisence. Shirly was a man? Explains that as well I was looking for a female..I was able over the past few months to find a few of the census you mentioned, as I am new to this I guess never to assume nothing especially back then lol. I can not thank-you enough. The only question you may still be able to answer for me would be how would I find any of margaret's marriage lisences, or birth announcements for the 3 children she had? I have looked but it always says no results found. I am pretty sure she married Anthony George Black possibley in Bridgeton New Jersey in the early to mid 30,s.. Lynn Hutchison I know was from lower Michigan area, Benton Harbor area, possibly. All I could ever find on my grandmother was in a 1920 and 30's census but by the 30 census she is listed as a stepdaughter. Also a death cert. from Fulton County Georgia April,6, 1963. I was not born until 71 so never got to meet her. So one last question ...i promise just 1 more lol. Is their a way to find out what happened to her why she passed in her early 40's, she was so young. I do know she is burried listed as ML hutchison. Thank-You again so very much. You did a great job so fast what has been taking me months to peice together.

Hi, I searched the links you gave me, but I have a question if you don't mind. In the 1930 census it shows an Agnes  Stewart. Turns out she was going by her middle name real name pheobe agnes lentz or lents for a maiden name. When she Married my Great Granfather John A Lane in 11/1897. I w'sas able to find them both but by the 30 census she I guess was remarried, well I can't seem to find out what happened to John. It shows him listed in Anna and shirley Hardings marriage lisence and Alice and Horton Mcquithy's.

If he is listed on those documents would that have meant he was still alive at that time? I can't find a death cert. announcement or anything for him. Rookie Question I am sure..just not sure what I am doing wrong as far as finding what I am looking for. Thank-You again if you can possibly help with this I would appreciate it.

The parents names on a marriage certificate do not necessarily indicate the parent(s) are alive.  In some states they ask father's name, mother's name and/or mother's maiden name.  Sometimes they don't ask either.  I have seen marriage certificates where it ask  any combination of father's name, father's place of residence, father's birthplace, father's age   and same for mother.  On some of those next to the parent name  it will say 'deceased', other times not.

I would guess if John registered for the Draft 1918 - which was too late to be drafted, just a registration - that he may have died between then and 1930 when Agnes is Mrs. Stewart, unless they divorced which is also a possibility.

I can't find any  IN 1920 census with John or Agnes Lane, I can't find any marriage of Agnes to George.  I don't know if the Martin, IN records are just not online for that timeframe?
