Seeking Glasgow's

If anyone has any information relating to the Glasgow surname, it'd be appreciated in the new Glasgow Surname One Name Project.

I was digging through my grandad's old geneology records and stumbled on this site. He has 2000+ people over 600 families mostly relating to his and his partners last name (Pitt/Claire) but he's traced my Dad's name back to Alexander Glasgow ca 1810

In my searches I've stumbled on a handful of Glasgow Tree's which I think all fit together. Just small clues like first-names appearing in a pattern, the uncommon aspect of the name (I live in Glasgow and have never met anyone with my last name who wasn't related - Although I have heard of a few through the grapevine.)

My grandad's (mostly unedited - some small tweaks) list is available here :

Along with an output from Ancestris here

Link to Alexander's descendants. My family is under Alexander > John > Robert > Alexander > John > John > James

This would link it up to William who is spoken about here  History of the Glasgow Family by Melanchthon Glasgow

I have some Glasgows in my tree. Sadly I get stuck on Glasgow-822 since his family came from Ireland. But his family bible is still around so I have his family pretty well documented

He may be the son of this John Glasgow, given the timing and how we name our kids.

I'm awaiting the results of a Y111-DNA result from FTDNA and hopefully we can link up some of these tree's accurately.

I have added a lot more information onto the project page that may be of interest.

I do have a Glasgow cousin who has tested Y-DNA with FTDNA. He's on the glasgow Y-dna study results page under kit N18544.

Hey Janelle,

I checked out the YDNA kit and it seems that result is 10 steps away from me (8-20 generations)

There's also some interesting Weirs..

in 1605, Katherine Glasgow is spouse to Thomas Weir, in the parish of Steinstone

In 1643, Thomas Glasgow marries a Catherine Weir in Edinburgh, Midlothian, Scotland and has at least four daughters
