Is Tennessee Hughes the mother of Betty Ann Hays?

Question

Betty Ann Hays died 10 Nov 1946.

Her death cert lists an unknown farther, a mother of unknown origin with the name Tennessee Mangrum, and a birth date of 1847. 

Lucinda Tennessee Hayes married a Mr. Mangrum before marrying Malachi Howell in 1874.

Perhaps Betty Ann Hayes was put up for adoption at birth when Mr. Mangrum died or left?

Lucinda could have been expecting at time of divorce, or Malachi Howell was father and they just covered it up by using Lucinda's former married name. Malachi Howell and Lucinda's Marriage cert lists her as Mrs Mangrum.

Death cert information is only as reliable as the person filling it out.  my Dad's own death cerrt has wrong DOB and Stepmother didn't know my Grandfather name.

Further research needed to connect Betty Ann Hays, wife of E. N. Hays ( her death cert names him) . There is an indication her mother was a Margaret Tennessee Mangrum that married a Crosser.

I suggest Betty (nickname for Elizabeth) was a daughter of Margaret Tennessee Mangrum by her first husband Joseph Crosser (1848-1898).  Tennessee (Mangrum) Crosser married twice after the death of Betty's father, so it is unlikely Betty's children would have remembered their grandfather at the time of their mother's death.

The mother of Betty Ann Crosser, wife of Elijah Newton Hays, was Margaret Tennessee Mangrum (1854-1931). Joseph Crosser died in 1898, when the oldest of Betty and Elijah's children (Leslie) was only 4 years old. Betty and Elijah are my great grandparents.
