Hi Betsy. I believe that if you send an e-mail through the WikiTree system (i.e., by using the [send private message] link next to the name on a profile that person manages), the software will return a copy of your message to you, and will also provide your e-mail address to the recipient. The recipient may then decide whether to respond, but any response would be to your e-mail address and would occur outside of the WikiTree system. As long as you phrased your note politely and didn't come across as a spammer, (and didn't catch the addressee committing a blatant screw-up) I think most active members would probably respond . Some members may no longer be active, and some do not monitor their mail that frequently, so it may take some time to get a response. And there will be some who don't care and don't want to be bothered. So you just need to be patient, and keep an eye on your junk folder if your mail tool sometimes gets too eager to put incoming traffic there. And have a Plan B in case you don't get a response in a reasonable time, because that does happen.
