Sutherland man servant at Ackergill, Scotland

Question

Is there any way to find out more about the servants who worked at the Ackergill Tower in Wick around 1841? Alexander Sutherland is a man servant in Ackergill.  I find him on the 1841 census, but don't know anything else about him. I am looking for my Alexander Sutherland who ended up in California around 1851.  My grand father said Alexander grew to manhood in Scotland and worked as a coachman. He said it was around the Edinburgh Castle, but I wonder if he got that wrong.  I know it's a long shot.
