Hi,
I need some expertise to locate the wife of George Lawson.
Her first name is Susanna/Susan. She was born in 1798 in North Carolina. She was last recorded in George Lawson's 1862 Will in Tishomingo County, Mississippi. He has a marked grave with a death date of 1863 at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Kossuth, Mississippi. George is also born in North Carolina.
Their oldest child is born c1819 Tennessee with other children born 1824-1828 in Alabama; 1830 and 1833 Tennessee; Last child born 1835 Indiana. The family is living in the Mississippi Territory in 1845, Tishomingo County; Tishomingo County, MS 1850 census; 1860 Sevier County, AR and then back to Tishomingo County, MS prior to 1862. George signed his will in Jan 1862, leaving everything to his wife, Susan.
I have searched for marriage records in Tennessee, Alabama, and North Carolina without success.
Several online trees provide her surname as Mendenhall with father as Mordecai (1762-1835); however, I have not been able to find documentation that his daughter, Susanna is the same person who married George Lawson and moved to TN, AL, IN, MS, AR and back to MS.
Additionally, I have not located a Will/probate for Mordecai Mendenhall in Indiana. There are Quaker records associated with the family, but again, no proof that his daughter, Susanna married George Lawson.
I have one death certificate for a child of George and Susanna Lawson and the father is recorded as Lawson and the mother is recorded as Lawson. The child was Chlarinda Lawson Polk; suspect the informant answered mother question with the name of their own mother rather than Chlarinda's mother.
I appreciate any help with solving this mystery.
Kindest Regards
