Unmerged Matches

Does an unmerged match just remain in limbo until the PM decides to progress it? Can I use the unresponsive manager route for this type of merge?

Unfortunately, it often tends to slip into limbo, although it shouldn't (see link below)

You need to check the PM's activity before going the Unresponsive PM route.  If you have more info that would solidify the Unmerged Match into one that matches or not, it would probably be a good idea to contact both PMs to let them know.

I'm one of the PMs. The other profile did not come up as a suggestion when I created mine, because the other profile had a wrong name at birth. He also used the baptism date as a birth date, when both dates are on the baptism record. I've told the other PM what the correct LNAB is, have provided a source at FamilySearch, and when he parked it for a couple of weeks, I sent him an email and also informed him that he can see an image at Ancestry. If he doesn't have a subscription to Ancestry, every public library here provides free access.

Yes, unfortunately the unmerged match just keeps a match in limbo. You can remove the unmerged match and propose the merge again, but it's still up to the other PM to approve. I don't think you can use unresponsive profile manager unless the PM actually isn't active/responsive.

Ah good idea. I've resubmitted the merge. The other one I initiated with this PM is about to get default approval. Hopefully this one will too eventually.
