Should unsourced, unconnected profiles be merged into more legitimate ones?

Isaac Cook-1545 has absolutely no connection. I just finished working on two other Isaacs Cook-4471 and 2539. Can I merge this one to give him a home? He could be any of the Isaac Cooks.

Given that the profile manager who created this empty profile hasn't been on WikiTree for two years and given that the Change history reveals no obvious identity for this person, yes, I'd say, merge him away.

But each example like this needs to be treated separately. Review the change history, check out the activity history of the profile manager. If they're active, reach out to them.

I agree, this is one of the cases where it can be done. https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Help:Recycling_WikiTree_IDs

The current PM adopted the profile and may never have known exactly who it was intended to represent.

And sadly, the original creator/importer of the profile passed away in 2013, so approaching them for clarification is also not an option. I agree that merging/recycling is an appropriate remedy in this circumstance.

As it has no connections at all and no data other than the name could it not be recycled as another Cook ? By changing  the first name if you don’t need another Isaac.
