At least three of my ancestors were named William Wallace McEwan. My question is, was the McEwan clan related to William Wallace, the Scottish hero who was imprisoned in the Tower of London for treason, then hanged, drawn and quartered.

It is possible, but just as possible that they were named in honour of this person.
