Charles, do they need to be male Gillespie's?
Jillaine,

Thanks for the question, The "Lord Lyons" office states heads of family should gather and determine, It does not state male or female. Clan Chief is passed through the male line, but in the case of the Mackintosh of Clan Chattan it was passed to him through the previous Clan Chiefs Daughter Eva. Yes and that was disputed by the Macphersons, but the key here is if the "Lord Lyon" is so inclined. I guess he has the last words in all things of anyone being recognized, and he recognized Mackintosh as Chief. read more here about  the family convention http://www.clangillespie.com/restoration.html

Gillespie-3 is my gg grandmother and I have followed many Gillespies from Georgia to  Texas from the early 1800s to present,  There is a photo of my gg grandmother on her profile.

I have traced my Gillespie heritage back to the US Revolutionary War.  The furtherest we can go back is Thomas and Naomi Gillespie.

This Gillespie line also connects to the Mother of President Polk.

I would be interested in any possible connection of our families.
