We are so excited about our new project that Dorothy Vance is helping us get started.  It's going to be so much fun to see how our ancestors have linked us together through the years without us ever knowing it. Just think of the new cousins we are going to find through our new "Scott County Family Tree." Who knows, if you are reading this...."You just might be my cousin!" Looking forward to seeing our membership grow so we can answer our big question......"Are we all related in Scott County, MS?" It doesn't matter where you may be living now. You could have family roots that started in Scott County, MS.  Thanks, Dorothy for making it possible for our "big"question to be answered and for the branches of our tree to grow.

I have many ancestors that moved to Scott County in the 1800s. My great grandparents John William Evers and Hannah Ann White were married there in 1862. Their families traveled there together from Georgia. Both families had deep roots in NC where some members remained. Other family members stayed in Georgia and Alabama along the way.

Hannah’s sister Susan Maria White married Absalom Taylor Beasley. Another sister Eva Nespa White married David Allen Singleton. Yet another sister Hellen White married Jackson Kight. The parents of these ladies were William White and his second wife Sarah Ann Robertson. Their brothers have been harder to track down. Most of the family stayed in the area and are buried there.

Parents of John William Evers were William Evers, Jr. and Mary Ann Sessoms. I haven’t been able to locate the graves of my grandparents or great grandparents. I believe many family members died in the yellow fever epidemic of 1875 or 1878. My grandfather and his brothers moved on to Yazoo and Holmes Counties, the area that eventually became a part of Humphreys County.
