how do i use an existing person?

hi,

i have found a person who is an exact match to my 2nd great grandfather, however, i don't seem to be able to "use him" even though ive added his wiki-tree number etc, my great grandmother didnt show as a match as the year of birth is out, but she is listed as daughter on this other tree.

please can someone help me sort this out.

If I understand your question correctly. You should be able to propose a match. Scroll down to the bottom of one of the profiles, click on initiate a merge, add the id of the second person, then click on the appropriate button below the id's. I would start with the compare button, and if your sources support a merge, then click the merge button. You could also adopt the orphaned profiles if you choose.

In trying to type a lengthy answer on how to proceed, I took the easy path and have linked your Mary profile to him and proposed a merge for the two duplicates for Mary. The profile for her father is an Orphan so you can adopt him and any other orphans on this tree twig.

i have now adopted some of the "orphan twigs" as they are linked to me (distanly 3rd cousins twice removed i think 1 said). how do i get the badge "big heart" for doing this?

i will work through them and change data as i have more dates than the profiles do
