Advice before editing this pre-1700 Unknown profile?

I have information to contribute to the profile of Rejoice (Unknown) Waters. This is what I can add:

  • Family Search Asa Waters' family tree indicated Rejoice's birthname is Plaise (G3JN-PYM)

These are the sources I am using:

  • Family Source G3JN-PYM

Should I contact one of the pre-1700 projects or know about any style guidelines before proceeding? Thank you!

Hi Karen, pre-1700 profiles require actual sources, do you have a link to the source you quote? Thanks

Hi Karen thank you for asking before editing this early immigrant profile. If you read the information on the profile, you would see that the surname of Plaise/Plasse is addressed in the bio.

" Richard Waters is called son-in-law to William Plasse, and he termed his stepfather as his father-in-law[2] which has caused confusion in early sources in attaching his step-father as the father of his wife Rejoice. Her parentage is unknown.[1]"

This is a good example of the caveat that genealogists should be careful when making assumptions based on stated relationships in early New England records. Some relationships had a broader definition then than they do today.
