This is a photo taken in Hill City, Kansas in the winter of 1946-47 of my uncle Scott Marvin Jr. In this photo, he has recently gotten married, and his wife, Marietta, took this photo of him with their cat on his shoulder.

Another great photo, Alexis! Thank you for sharing it.

Though the cat may have often ridden on human shoulders, I imagine that it may, also, have not wanted to get its furry little paws cold and wet.
Robin, you obviously know about cats. I have three that only want to see snow from a window. Thank you for your sweet comment.
Gorgeous photo of your uncle love the cat on his shoulder

Thank you sweet Alexis for sharing this wonderful photo
Susan, thank you for your comment. I remember last year you had such a wonderful Pets photo of your dad and his bird, Claus.
Alexis yes that is correct one of my favourite photos. I wonder

What the cat would say to my dads bird Claus

Susan, maybe from a favorite poem by Edward Lear,  "You elegant fowl!   How charmingly sweet you sing!

Gorgeous poem love it

My Grandfather, Harold "Hal" Knott Rammel, loved animals.

He was the editor of the Escanaba Daily Press in the 1920s in Michigan.  When the circus came to town he had to go join in on the fun.

Here is a picture of my 5 year old mother, Patsy, with one of the family dogs. Other than as pets, animals have not featured in most of my genealogy. However, all of my family have loved animals both inside and outside the house.

Saphyre, thank you for sharing your wonderful photo of your adorable mother and her dog. Looking at this photo can not keep a person from smiling.

This photograph has mystified me for years. It is my great grandfather Charles Gwinn (right) and his son-in-law Leo Bradley, probably around 1915 or so. Charles was a contractor who built schoolhouses and other public buildings; Leo was a stationary engineer with the Champaign, Illinois, public schools. Sober, serious men . . . with a donkey? Or perhaps a pony. Anyway, why was this picture taken?

Interesting indeed.   And the brick is fake.

My mom's dad was a lifelong animal lover, rescuing all sorts of animals from hurricanes.  While he was primarily a dog person, he had a fondness for birds as well.  Growing up, he had a parrot named Polly (not very original); unfortunately, I don't have any pictures of him with Polly, but this picture was taken with one of the family chickens in the late 20s/early 30s.

My mom’s favorite dog, Teddy. Sorry about the quality, but I did not take the photo. wink I have heard a lot about Teddy and how he was my mom’s and her brother’s favorite dog. This was taken in the mid 1950s.

Teddy looks like he's ready to play.    Great shot.     My mom had a  HUGE dog that looks very similar to Teddy.

This is my maternal grandmother and her sister.  Apparently the goat/pony and cart was a routine photography set up that traveled from house to house taking photos for money.

Jennifer, your grandmother and her sister are absolutely darling. Thank you for sharing your photo.
What a wonderful photo, Jennifer!  I love everything about it -- your grandmother and her sister are darling with wonderful hairstyles.  The goat and the wagon just add to the cuteness.  Thank you for sharing this.

Wow! This is so like the photo of my mom taken in 1923. Check it out.

That is fantastic!  It nearly even looks like the same cart.  I love it.  Thanks for posting!
Wow,  the carts have the location (Spokane and Ft. Wayne) and probably year painted on them.    Pretty great way to photo kids.

Don't know yet who the little girl is, but the dog looks more like a werewolf. I'm sure he had a lot of personality though ;)

by Frances Weidman G2G6 Mach 5 (53.5k points)
The dog is unusual, but pretty. The little girl's clothes are magnificent!

My brother-in-law around 1938 or 39. The picture was torn and I cloned in the brick background, and added our dog.

I can't remember where this photo was taken, although it was somewhere in England. My sister Felicity is the one with the parrot, brother Adrian centre, and me on the left, in about 1964. My sister remembers that the parrot was heavy!

I'm not seeing a picture.
It's my first time posting a photo. I don't know what went wrong, but I've had another go at it. I saw it there when I posted it, so I hope it stays this time!

This is my grandfather and his dog.  I like the farm clothes and relaxed look, not the typical formal picture.

My mom's side (including my grandfather) were all good with horses, and I have a ton of horse pictures as well.  But this is one of my favorites.

52 Photos Week 9: Animals

500px-SMITH_HESS_FAMILY-27.jpg

For this week, I am showing Dominika Bydalek and her sister with their farm animals. They are supposed to be feeding them, but I think they stopped to pose for a picture. There is a little debate about the spelling on Dominika's name - some paperwork has it the way I spelled it, and it is sometimes spelled Dominica.  I have to dig further to see which way is correct.

by Cheryl Hess G2G Astronaut (1.8m points)
Cheryl, thank you for sharing the adorable photo of Dominika and her sister. They look like they are feeding the chickens in their Sunday best; bet they went went to church after they emptied the feed bag.

While the my grandmother looks handsome in her muskrat coat, I'm glad these once-popular fashion statements have gone out of fashion!  https://www.wikitree.com/photo/jpg/Gardner-4659-9
