You know who else isn't connected the fam yet? Tom Brokaw! He has a quite a few clues in his Wikipedia page, mentioned Irish Americans, his great grandfather founded Bristol, South Dakota, and he is descended from Huguenots. His parents are both deceased, so you can start there and see what you can find.

I've created the profiles to make the connection I found below.  I'm just waiting to be accepted onto the trusted list for Brokaw-35.   I'm satisfied that he is the correct father for Richard Patterson Brokaw (Brokaw-193)

Awesome, thank you, Kyle!

Agreed, I was just trying to do the same eight days later. Hopefully we'll hear from the profile owner.Way to go!

Do you think Joseph Brokaw did die October 31, 1861 in Lodi, Seneca, New York, USA as stated on Brokaw-35, or do you think he moved to New York and is this Joseph Brokaw on Find a Grave? They're both using the same birthdate.

I looked into the NYC Brokaw and I am certain that it is a different Joseph Brokaw.  You can see him in the City Directories in NYC as early as 1857 and then follow him through those directories and the Census all the way to his death in 1897.

Our Joseph Brokaw-35 shows up in the Census in both 1850 and 1860 in Lodi, Seneca County, New York, then his history goes dark.  I couldn't find a source for the 1861 date of death, but based on what you see in the Census it would make sense.

I think the error at FindaGrave is that they gave the NYC Joseph the Seneca Joseph Brokaw's birth date and location.
Okay, let's build out NYC Joseph as Brokaw-198 and get them in as a rejected match so we can help put an end to the confusion.

According to his Wikipedia entry, Tom is descended from Bourgeon Broucard, who is connected.

A little more digging and a little sneak over to Geni and it looks like his great-great-grandfather is Joseph Brokaw, who is also connected.

Better be careful with this one. Apparently there's a fuzzy link in here, which is detailed on a FindaGrave profile for one Joseph Brokaw (which may or may not be the Joseph Brokaw I just referred to):
