Skiddles (children) that just don't fit: Rev. Hawte Wyatt (17th century/Virginia settlement)

+12 votes

The Magna Carta folks have been hard at work on the profile of Rev. Hawte Wyatt. Thanks to their good work, we can identify several children who don't fit into his now rather nicely documented family.

The awkward children (listed below) have profiles mostly void of historical references. We've now posted conflicted origins coments to the children's profiles. See

  • Joshua Long Wyatt - Profile reports no birth or death vitals, but Internet postings that reference historical records suggest he is an 18th century personality
  • Nicholas Wyatt - There are many posts to the Internet about this fellow. He died at Maryland in 1673. Since at least 1998, postings to Wyatt genealogy forums report that Nicholas was not the son of Rev. Wyatt, but that didn't prevent contributors at FindAGrave from continuing the notion. A duplicate exists about Nicholas (sans parents) in the form of Wyatt-266; he is possibly also Wyatt-494.
  • Susannah Wyatt – Although her reported date of birth conflicts, she seems the alter-ego of Rev. Wyatt's daughter Anne/Ann/Anna, who was born later and to his third marriage. Profile of Susannah Wyatt and Anna Wyatt report the same date of death (1 January 1648), albeit at different locations, both are locations in the colonies.

Suggest we

1. Detach both Joshua Long Wyatt and Nicholas Wyatt as sons of Rev. Wyatt and wife Barbara. (Both have soft links back to Rev. Wyatt and Barbara.)

2. Merge Susannah Wyatt into Anna Wyatt.

Ideas? Objections?

Another shout out to those who have worked diligently on these Wyatt profiles.

Thank you in advance to members of our wider community for your time and interest. --GeneJ

Joshua Long Wyatt and Nicholas Wyatt have been detached from Hawte Wyatt and Barbara Mitford.

Elizabeth Unknown has been created and attached to Hawte Wyatt as wife, with Thomas Wyatt (also detached from Barbara Mitford) as their son.

Barbara Mitford's date of death is disputed: it is the same date/location that Douglas Richardson gives for Elizabeth Unknown.

A merge is proposed for Susannah Wyatt and Anne Wyatt, waiting on response from PMs.

Thank you Gene for your analysis of the Hawte Wyatt family. More work is needed on his descendants, and I hope those PMs will get involved.
Nice work April, and thank you for the kind words.

Thanks so much for this concise analysis! I feel the sources on Rev. Wyatt's profile are good. I support the suggestions as outlined to detach both Joshua and Nicholas and to merge Susannah into Anna.

Thank you Lindsay for your confidence. We look forward to a time when you can get back to WikiTree, and appreciate all your contributions.

Susannah Wyatt-215 has been merged into Ann Wyatt-212.

Hawte Wyatt is a proven descendant of Magna Carta surety baron William Malet.

Hawte's Magna Carta Template Trail from his profile through each generation to Baron Malet, is stamped with the Magna Carta Project Template, completed by John Schmeeckle.

The Magna Carta Project welcomes members interested in improving project profiles. No lineage to the surety barons is needed, just the Pre-1700 Certification Badge and familiarity with profile improvement techniques, or the willingness to learn them. The project provides links to the 'how-to' pages.
