My great grandmother, Elizabeth Maria Collins, said she was a first cousin of Michael Collins [the Big Fella]. Her father's name was Daniel Collins. Daniel Collins was also one of Michael Collin's uncles, on whom there is very little information. Any news on connections, etc will be greatly appreciated.

You should first develop the profiles between you and those nearest you of which you can personally verify or know to be true the information which you may find.  Then do the same for your parents, grandparents, and then their parents.  Then it will be much easier and likely more accurate to find this information you are looking for.  With the family name of Collins, there will be many records, so you will need to be careful and diligent in doing all the neccessary record searching to find the correct information.

Theresa, I would welcome any further info you might have about your g-grandmother, as I have very little detail about Dan Collins, other than he was born in the early 1800s. His brother Michael John, my great-grandfather was born in 1815, and was the youngest of 7 brothers.  the eldest, Patrick, was born in 1798.

Hi Mr Hurley, my great gran always spoke of being Michael Collins' first cousin, so I researched her marriage and death certificates online and found her dad's name was Daniel Collins. She was living in Birmingham, UK in 1913 at the time of her first marriage. Her father's name is listed on the certificate as Daniel Collins, dock labourer, deceased. I have found it difficult to trace any further. I would be very happy to find out exactly where she was born, and when and where her father was born, lived and died.
It would help to know when your great-gran was born.  At the time of her first marriage in 1913, the Dan Collins who was Michael Collins' uncle would have been about 100 years old or more.
Hi, my great gran was born in 1889. According to the marriage certificate her father was already deceased in 1913.
