If you are interested in people who are famous, notable, noted, significant, important, historic, heroic, or otherwise fascinating, then the Notables Project might be for you! 

The idea behind this post is for anyone who needs help with connecting Notables to the tree to post to this thread and ask for help, or if you want to tell us whom you have successfully connected up, or if you want to join the Notables Project and get a badge.

Besides checking out the Notables Project page, don't forget to take a look at the Notables List page, where you can find lists of Notables who have profiles which aren't yet connected to the main tree. (For ideas on way to connect unconnected people and branches, see the Hints and Tips on the Connectors Chat page.)

Please remember to concentrate on those Notables who have already passed (died), so that we can see their profiles. If you create a profile for a living Notable, that profile WILL GO UNLISTED and no one can see it except for the PM and anyone on the trusted list!

And remember - Notables should have a Wikipedia page at the very least to qualify. And they should be DEAD! If you manage a profile for any living notable, would you please replace any Notables categories on that profile with [[Category:Living Notables]]? That could clear out a lot of profiles that people can't work on from the various Notables categories, and also keep all the living notables in one place to make them easy to find, should the need arise.

Impressionist painters Frédéric Bazille and Gustave Caillebotte are now connected to the global tree.

Since Women's History Month is celebrated in a number of countries during March, I'll likely work on notable women for the remainder of the month.

So I made a profile for a little-known French Olympian, Léon Binoche.

Léon's parents had met in Brazil where his French father was living for business. His mother was Brazilian. Léon was the 13th of their 14 children. He was probably named after Pope Leo XIII, who had been elected a few months before his birth.

A rugby union player, he played the 1900 Olympic tournament - actually the sport event held as part of the 1900 World's Fair - which France won. The event had little in common with what would be expected of an Olympic competition today. There were in fact only 3 teams in the tournament, and apparently the referee of the France-Germany match prolonged the match by 20 minutes to allow France to win!

Léon later became an industrialist and businessman. Two of his children had a remarkable life: his son, General François Binoche, was Compagnon de la Libération; and his daughter Antoinette, also a member of the Resistance, later became the very first woman to serve as Mayor of a Parisian arrondissement.

As of today, Edith Piaf, Thérèse de Lisieux and Maurice Chevalier are connected to the global tree. And yes, I'm aware that they are remotely connected, Thérèse in particular. I'm sure these connections could be improved.

I would like to join the notables and add my first cousin (five times removed) William Rufus King. William was Vice President of the United States. He was sworn in by a special act of congress, as he was forced to spend the winter in Cuba due to tuberculosis.He took the oath in Havana Cuba, March 4,1853

Well, I started back on my Academy Award winners and working my way down through the list on any deceased winners. Made it to the 1969 presentations and found an Honorary Winner, Canadian Choreographer Onna White, who needed a profile. I'll see what I can do to get her updated and connected.

Next up was Charles S. Boren, who won an Academy Award in 1973 for his role as an executive who handled fair labor relations in the motion picture industry. I was surprised that he has no Wikipedia page and very little information online about him at all. Essentially, he's on the fringe of notability, but at the moment, he doesn't qualify as a Notable. Wow.

And so on... we'll see if I can make some progress on the new ones. At some point I'll need to return to the list to update existing ones too. Always something to work on around here.

John Houseman and a whole cluster of other Notables including silent film star Colleen Moore is now connected. There's a connection somewhere in the mix that I'm not pleased with at the moment, as there's a claim to a marriage that I can't find any evidence for. The profile states the reason for the connection is a book that I haven't read, so I'm not going to just toss it out since I'm not familiar with the evidence, but I really need to pursue this a bit further as something sounds a bit off about that one. Because of that, I took an extra step and found another connection and it should update tonight. I'm really glad this one worked out, as my first look (and second one too) at his profile gave me the feeling I might never connect him up. Glad I took another shot at it.

John Houseman, I haven't seen the profile you worked on, but I read your post about a marriage. He had two sons, one of whom, Sebastian, was my Godfather. He passed away around 2017. John Houseman was also the President of Juliard acting school, but you probably already know that. Sebastian Houseman was an amazing graphic artist and painter who lived in Sunapee, New Hampshire. I hope this helps. :D

I started a profile for the actor who played Bozo the Clown in the 1960's. He was born William Cohen and used the stage name of Bill Britten. There were several people with the name of William Cohen living in Philadelphia during the correct time frame with close birth dates but I believe the one I am working on has parents named Harry and Goldie. I did find an enlistment record but the birth date is off by a year and I am not sure about that one yet. This one may be a bit to connect.

Dale, I'm glad you mentioned that there were several, as I seem to recall something well over a year ago about someone else connecting Bozo to the tree. While I've got a number of bozos, nuts, and etc. in my tree (don't shake it too hard, they'll fall out), I don't think I have any close relationships to THE Bozo the Clown. (or one of the many as of yet).

I was disappointed to find the profile for Ettore Boiardi has been red locked. He is a Notable and buried in the cemetery near my fathers house. his profile is here, https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Boiardi-3 . The profile was created in created in 2011 and I could add a great deal but it is locked, I could even stop by the cemetery and take some pictures but.......

I did send a trusted list request but the manager has not been active on WikiTree since November of 2016 so I do not hold out much hope there. I will wait and see.

I forgot to mention that he is better known as Chef Boyardee and actually had a restaurant, Il Giardino d'Italia in Cleveland, about 30 miles from my house.

I found his wife has an Open profile that was an Orphan. I adopted that one and can work on connecting her to make the connection when his profile is eventually opened.

Karen and Scott, I sent a message to the PM 3 days ago and posted comments in the appropriate places at that time. I did not file the unresponsive PM form yet, I was waiting until the 7 days was up but I am not against it happening sooner. I have a lot I could add to the profile because he lived most of his life near where I live and there are a lot of local sources available.

I created profiles for Dan Rice and his wife Ada (Bousman).  They became quite wealthy, got into horse racing (one of their horses won the Kentucky Derby, ridden by Willie Shoemaker), and then were major philanthropists in the Chicago region.  

Ada is interesting, it appears she's the child of teenage parents who maintained a connection for some time but might not have ever married. Eventually they married other people.  So it looks like Ada came from humble beginnings, and was apparently working as a cashier at a candy shop when she married Dan, perhaps that's how they met.  Oddly I couldn't find a find-a-grave or obituary for anybody in this extended family, Ada or Dan's side, although there are articles about their farm and their donations.  A newspapers.com account might help.  Their one son may or may not have been adopted and may or may not have died in 1990, both of those events have conflicting records.

I went back a generation or two, but couldn't hook up to the global tree.  I'm not sure if I'll work on it any more, I don't have a personal connection to them, mostly I was just interested to see if they were related to a different Rice family I know (apparently not).  The profiles aren't real polished, if somebody wants to take them over, I'd be fine with that.

I ended up creating a profile for Hector Seymour Peter Monro, Baron Monro of Langholm, as part of connecting his wife. Unfortunately, i've only been able to find secondary sources for him so far. (Lots of them, but still only secondary sources.) It's going to take somebody who has access to Scottish sources to add anything primary, I think.

While working on yet another Welch, I came across a whole line of baronets, none of whom were on WikiTree, and only three of whom were on ThePeerage.com, so I've added them. The seventh and last was George Alan Thomas, who also turns out to be related (by his second great grandfather's second marriage) to Admiral John Montagu, another notable.

(I think the network effect must be starting to kick in, because I'm finding additional connections for already connected branches all the time these days.)

I hear you Greg! I occasionally go back to some Notables that I abandoned awhile back and discover new connections that I either couldn't see before or maybe new sources open up new opportunities. Either way, it's nice to be able to add new branches in there.

Washing machine challenge! 

 I connected Louis Cassius Upton, one of the founders of the Whirlpool Corporation along with other members of his family. They are related to a famous model of the same name, and also related by marriage to Aubrey McClendon, who we connected yesterday.

I'm a comic book fan, so this got my attention. I will admit that I'm not familiar with his work, but I recognize the style. I'm willing to bet that some of his early work sells for a pretty good amount.

I'm working on the Australian Army nurses who were murdered in 1942 in the Bangka Island Massacre (https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Space:Australian_Nurses_of_the_Vyner_Brooke).  Some of them are notable for what they did during their captivity and after the war.  Hoping to have them connected shortly.  Teddy Flack (https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Flack-827), Australia's first Olympic gold medallist, is connected.

Cecilia Parker was a Canadian-born American film actress. She was best known for portraying Marian Hardy, the sister of Andy Hardy in eleven of the Andy Hardy film series.

From the "notorious" side of notables, I have connected David Lind of the Wonderland Gang. David was a biker and career criminal, part of an crime ring peddling drugs and burglarizing homes in Los Angeles in the late 1970s and very early 1980s. With the assistance of porn star John Holmes, Lind and his gang associates robbed nightclub mogul/underworld figure Eddie Nash. Two days later, most of the gang was found bludgeoned to death in their home. Lind survived because he was snorting cocaine in a hotel with a male prostitute at the time. He testified against Nash and Nash's associates, but they were acquitted of the murders in 1991. Lind himself died 4 years later.

Needed a palate cleanser profile to do and I'd been watching the old 1950's television show Peter Gunn lately - so I tried Craig Stevens, but he was already done. So I picked Lola Albright. She turns out to have a lot of family tree information that could be put together fairly quickly (I did have to connect a number of dots, but overall it was a very satisfying journey) and I've set her up and connected her to the global tree through several different connections.

I do recall her as Edie Hart in Peter Gunn (of course), but apparently she played numerous parts here and there and even was nominated for an Emmy. She was apparently a quite private person and rarely granted interviews, but what I was able to read showed she seemed to be an interesting person.

I am currently working on Ernst Jokl, internationally known pioneer in sports medicine. 

He is only the third Jokl so not seeing much luck connecting him on that front, figured I could see if there is a connection via his wife or children.

From a notable project standpoint does it matter that his wikipedia page is established in German and not in English?
