Can anything on this William Bogue be documented in Scotland?

Question

That little is known of the origins of William Bogue who appears in Virginia starting 1650s or later is a given. He is frequently seen as the son of the parents attached to his profile. It may be read that records of him in Scotland end about the time records of him in Virginia begin yet no one can show you the records in Scotland or Virginia upon which this is said to be based.

I'm unable to find anything in Scottish records (online) other than a baptismal record that could be any number of people. Can some of our Scotland Project colleagues have a look for records?

A work by Hardy Zachary Bogue "Bogue Family" rev ed copyright 1993 is seen cited but the work appears unavailable outside FHLs so documentation it might contain cannot be checked. Does anyone have access to this work?

I checked Scotland's People and he was not listed.

In this document (Land tax rolls 1645-1831 Land tax rolls for Berwickshire, volume 07 E106/6/7/7, p. 6) [see bottom of left page] we find  William Bogue's interest in Auchencraw, Part Earl of Home's Teind for Auchencraw,

Could be where the supposed origins originate, at least.

I presume you've seen the summary of the book on FS Bogue: an Early Family of Virginia ... this is the first genealogy I've seen that posits this William as the immigrant ancestor, a war prisoner deported to Virginia, who married there and had three children. I have access to photocopies from Saunders/Krigbaum The Bogues of Scotland, and Cordelia Bogue Wright's Family History and Genealogy of William Bogue is available online. They both repeat Virgil T. Bogue's opinion that William "lived and died in Scotland." But I would love to get my hands on this newer book as well. I can't contribute much but I do appreciate your work on this ancestor!

Thanks, Katherine. I hadn't before seen Cordelia Bogue Wright's history which seems to cover Perquimans forward which is well-documented and doesn't give any documentation for the Scotland information it gives. At present looking to see if there are any appropriately named Bogue's of Auchencraw who are not accounted for in Scotland in the time period they would have arrived Virginia.
