Can I download a portion of a tree from ancestry to wikitree?

I have a more complete tree in ancestry.  I want to download a portion of the tree into wiki tree so I don't have to re-type everything.  The portion in ancestry has sources attached.

You might try browsing some past G2G discussions to find opinions on the pros and cons of gedcom uploads before you decide to do one.

You may find my comment on this thread useful:

I don't think Ancestry.com currently has an easy way to split large GEDCOMs, so you will probably need to use a family tree program on your computer for splitting your GEDCOM.

You should also review the help page for GEDCOMpare to learn about the actual process.

Final note: you will need to upgrade your membership to Wiki Genealogist before you can process a GEDCOM.

I don't think it is possible to download a portion of a tree (GEDCOM) from Ancestry.com. I do not see that option on the "manage tree" page. You could download the entire tree (GEDCOM) then, if you have software on which into which you can import the tree (GEDCOM), you can use that software to create other GEDCOMS which are portions of the original, then upload that portion to WikiTree.

Personally I think it is easier to just manually create profiles and add sources.

I know some people dont like anyone being negative and saying that I should be encouraging Gedcoms, but seriously, I have read so many comments of people who end up abandoning their family trees because they could not compare all the names on their tree to every other named person that came up on the wikitree search list - and that is what the gedcompare program is designed to do. Usually because there were just too many names and people got tired.

I personally created and manually made every profile in my family tree.

Fortunately I was lucky and was able to make a connection very quickly to the global tree on my very first day - but not everyone is as lucky as I was. I continued creating and adding profiles to my tree and now I have a substantial New Zealand tree here on wikitree that probably has well over 2000 names.
