Adrial Hurlburt (1795 - 1892) LNAB Hurlbert? Recommend removing connection. No sources for parental lineage

+2 votes

The LNAB needs to be clarified. The FAG link with stone photo of engraving clearly shows spelling as Hurlbert. See FAG

All his children have same LNAB spelling on engravings on gravestones “Hurlbert;” however wikitree profiles of him and the children have it spelled Hurlburt, which seems to be incorrect. Anyone know how to fix this?

Also can we add more sources to their profiles as ancestry family trees seem to be the only source which non subscribers can’t view.

He needs parental lineage help as parents unknown.

The father linked to him is Wethersfield Captain John Hurlbut; however no solid source found linking him as his father.

Captain John Hurlbut didn’t marry until 1799 and Adrial is born in 1795; also no record showing Captain John Hurlbut and family lived in Vermont at all.

See Wethersfield historical society for further detail.

I am not sure why Captain John Hurlbut is linked as father except ancestry trees which are often inaccurate as a source.

If he is the father I haven’t found a source as of yet linking Adrial as his son; however if anyone has a source or proof he is the son please provide the info.

Thank you wikitree family any help is appreciated

I have looked int the connection and only find a questionable source. i suggest breaking the John-Adrial connection.

I agree at least until there is a solid source. I did remove the connection however was reconnected by another member so not sure the rational for the reconnection?
Make sure to add a Research Notes section (2 equal signs in front of and after that  to make it another header) to both profiles, father and son, with the wikitree IDs of the other stating that the connection was removed because of no sourcing, etc.  That way it is documented if documentation is found later but it will also hopefully prevent someone else from coming along and adding the connection again.

When you remove someone, you need to document it in the profile, but checking with the PMs of the affected profiles is also recommended before doing it or the connections removed will keep being put back in, which is part of our Collaboration on Wikitree.
Excellent advice! I didn’t know. I added the research notes and updated accordingly. Thank you : )

Remember that spelling wasn't important in earlier times. The other spelling can be put into Other Last Name field. Just because it is on the gravestone doesn't mean that is correct either.  Trying to find original birth and marriage sources would be helpful but not easy.

Yes I added the other spelling in other last names field as it’s possible. Hurlburt and Hurlbert. It has been very hard to find sources for him but research ongoing. The children are easier for adding sources; which I have been working on
