Galeran Martin, purported father of Anne Martin

Galeran Martin is one of "possible but unverifiable" fathers of Anne Martin, an early settler in Canada New France and the wife of Jean Côté.

I accidentally found a profile that might be for him (although the dates were initally off), included in a set of horrendous imaginary people, but thought since this Galeran appears in a few sources, he might have a regular profile.

I've added what notes I could and removed any connections, and I'm wondering, would the Québécois project be willing to take charge of this profile? It should not be left floating alone without monitoring like that. It seems to need project protection.

Thanks!!

      hi Eddie,

I know Tanguay says Anne Martin was daughter of Abraham, but in fact he did a fair bit of ''plugging'' on various people.  Anne's marriage record is a reconstruction by the clergy of the time, after all the records went up in smoke in 1640.  None of the marriage reconstructions bear any parental names nor origins.  So Tanguay's conclusion is at best surmise.
Hi Eddie, the problem of Anne Martin's parentage is discussed in some detail on her profile page (though it's mostly in French). There are several theories, none provable, one is that she is daughter of Abraham Martin, another that her father is Galeran Martin, and a third that she was daughter of neither of them....
      hi ladies !

I just look for stuff and do some rabble rousing LOL

I don't speak or read French - only English and some Yiddish

I agree, I think it would be best if the profile for Galeran were managed by the Québécois project.

I found what appears to be his burial act, linked here.  I've checked PRDH database and he is the only instance of a Galeran Martin in the population.

Thank you, I've now added these details to the profile. It's good to give him his place.

      Thanks, Danielle!
so far two articles mention him and cite Trudel and Langlois as saying he was father of Anne Martin.  Conspicuously absent from notarial records so far.  Will see about church records citing him.
well, done all I can right now, have written Hurtubise (editors) to see if they will re-publish Marcel Trudel's work on the early immigrants, long out of print.  Only place to find it is in big libraries.  He seems to be the one having most data on him.  Filled in research notes on where I've looked, and put him under project management.
Isabelle, do you think he needs PPP also or is project management sufficient?
PPP would be great: it would prevent the poor man from sprouting parents (his profile used to have fancy ones) as well as numerous wives and children...
will you oblige then?  I can't do it.
      Done!
