The England Project is an exciting place to be at the moment! We have a few hundred active members improving and creating English Profiles. We have a strong sense of community, and a team structure where members work in their areas of interest. Amongst our activities we connect, source, and improve bios within our County Teams, we correct data errors, improve old Gedcom profiles, and encourage One-name and One-place studies.

Does this sound like something you would like to be part of?

Your England Project membership will begin with our unique Orphan Trail team (OT) which should take less than a month to complete. The OT helps you learn about building and formatting English profiles using English sources right back to 1700. It will empower you to research your own English ancestors!

Read all about it here.

We do ask that you make the OT a priority in your Wikitreeing activity to be able to complete it in a timely manner. If you know you won't be able to give it your full attention now, please apply to join the England Project at a more suitable time for you.

During the OT, we get to learn more about you and what your interests are. Once you have finished the OT you will join one of our other teams and make connections with members who share your own interests.

PLEASE NOTE: if you are just looking for help with specific ancestors in England, and don't wish to take the Orphan Trail and become active in the England Project, then post a message in G2G tagged ENGLAND and one of our helpful England Project Helpdesk team members will try to assist you :)

If you want to join us, please ANSWER below this post (not comment, or we may miss you!). Also please DO NOT put your email address in your answer - it attracts spammers! I will respond with joining instructions and get you into our England Project Google Group, which is how we all communicate.

Thank you!

Hi

My name is Julia Harris, and I have ancestors going back to pre 1700.  I would like to understand more about them, and in order to do so, I need to understand more than I do.  I am currently unemployed and therefore have time to devote to helping the project move along, which in turn will educate me to better understand this environment.

My Marshall family came from East Yorkshire, my direct line immigrated to the USA in 1872, I've traced the line back to late 1600 early 1700.

Hello, very interested in joining this project.  I have spent 30 years doing genealogy research and have now reached the point that has led me to England and Scotland.  I planned on traveling to Scotland this spring for research but of course was derailed.  I continue to try and contact English and Scotish resources.  I am an avid researcher and would love to continue in the 1300-1400-1500-1600 eras.

Hi Shawna :)

I sent you a private message about joining on 11 September. I will send it again. It should be in your email inbox within the next few minutes. Please let me know if you don't receive it.

Got the message but the link to access the orphaned profiles isn't working. It's not highlighted and clickable. Is there another way to access them so I can select one to start with?

Please accept my request to join the England Project.  I hope I learn about new concepts that I can apply to my own genealogy research as well as other people's genealogy as well. Thank you.

Hi Fran,

I am Richard Ian Acworth and wish to enter all the Acworth names that exist in the Pedigree of Acworth of Bedfordshire that was published in 1905 by W.A. Green and G. Brindley Acworth. This line goes back to a William Acworth born approx 1375 and died in 1432. William was the Attourney to Duke Humphrey, younger brother of Henry V. He had a son Humphrey who married Dionese Leche. They had sons William and John. William was killed in battle during the Wars of the Roses but John carried the arms of the Acworth and Leche families into battle on his colours.

John married Elizabeth Broughton and had children George and Thomas - which gets us up to 1500.

I would be very happy to add all these folk to WikiTree and to collaborate with the project. WIlliam Acworth (Atourney) was my 15th Great-Grandfather. Along with input from a cousin (John) and work carried out by Sue Valiant (recorded on Ancestry) we can account for nearly all of the Acworths through to the present day. These include Joan Acworth (daughter of George by his second wife Margaret Wilberforce, who was locked up in the Tower of London during Henry VIII's time and later noteable folk.

Best wishes

Ian
