The England Project is an exciting place to be at the moment! We have a few hundred active members improving and creating English Profiles. We have a strong sense of community, and a team structure where members work in their areas of interest. Amongst our activities we connect, source, and improve bios within our County Teams, we correct data errors, improve old Gedcom profiles, and encourage One-name and One-place studies.

Does this sound like something you would like to be part of?

Your England Project membership will begin with our unique Orphan Trail team (OT) which should take less than a month to complete. The OT helps you learn about building and formatting English profiles using English sources right back to 1700. It will empower you to research your own English ancestors!

Read all about it here.

We do ask that you make the OT a priority in your Wikitreeing activity to be able to complete it in a timely manner. If you know you won't be able to give it your full attention now, please apply to join the England Project at a more suitable time for you.

During the OT, we get to learn more about you and what your interests are. Once you have finished the OT you will join one of our other teams and make connections with members who share your own interests.

PLEASE NOTE: if you are just looking for help with specific ancestors in England, and don't wish to take the Orphan Trail and become active in the England Project, then post a message in G2G tagged ENGLAND and one of our helpful England Project Helpdesk team members will try to assist you :)

If you want to join us, please ANSWER below this post (not comment, or we may miss you!). Also please DO NOT put your email address in your answer - it attracts spammers! I will respond with joining instructions and get you into our England Project Google Group, which is how we all communicate.

Thank you!

Hi

My name is Julia Harris, and I have ancestors going back to pre 1700.  I would like to understand more about them, and in order to do so, I need to understand more than I do.  I am currently unemployed and therefore have time to devote to helping the project move along, which in turn will educate me to better understand this environment.

I am starting to reach the point where the new people I am adding to the tree were born before 1700.  So I get advisory warnings about entering "Pre-1700" profiles.  I follow the trail of pages and links and basically end up here.  The idea, as I understand it, is that if I want to enter or edit profiles in the pre-1700 timeframe I must coordinate with a pre-1700 project.  This then seems to require me to jump through a gruelling set of hoops under the supervision of a coordinator to gain a badge .... and this might take upwards of 6 months.  Frankly, I'm not sure I have the time to devote to that.  So, in principle, I might be up for this, but I'm very hesitant to commit ... :)

Looking forward to hearing from someone.  Feel free to e-mail me with a PM if you like.

Richard looking at your tree I think if you join a project it may be more appropriate to join the Scotland Project as you do not appear to have any ancestors from England.

They have a trail as well known as the Tartan Trail. Scotland had different laws to England and the resources you need to access are likely to be different.

Well yes, and I'm in the Scotland project, but I am busier these days working on my wife's family tree and that goes back as far as [[Brook-1249|Humphrey Brook]] who was born sometime in the 1695/1706 timeframe.
