The England Project is an exciting place to be at the moment! We have a few hundred active members improving and creating English Profiles. We have a strong sense of community, and a team structure where members work in their areas of interest. Amongst our activities we connect, source, and improve bios within our County Teams, we correct data errors, improve old Gedcom profiles, and encourage One-name and One-place studies.

Does this sound like something you would like to be part of?

Your England Project membership will begin with our unique Orphan Trail team (OT) which should take less than a month to complete. The OT helps you learn about building and formatting English profiles using English sources right back to 1700. It will empower you to research your own English ancestors!

Read all about it here.

We do ask that you make the OT a priority in your Wikitreeing activity to be able to complete it in a timely manner. If you know you won't be able to give it your full attention now, please apply to join the England Project at a more suitable time for you.

During the OT, we get to learn more about you and what your interests are. Once you have finished the OT you will join one of our other teams and make connections with members who share your own interests.

PLEASE NOTE: if you are just looking for help with specific ancestors in England, and don't wish to take the Orphan Trail and become active in the England Project, then post a message in G2G tagged ENGLAND and one of our helpful England Project Helpdesk team members will try to assist you :)

If you want to join us, please ANSWER below this post (not comment, or we may miss you!). Also please DO NOT put your email address in your answer - it attracts spammers! I will respond with joining instructions and get you into our England Project Google Group, which is how we all communicate.

Thank you!

Hi

My name is Julia Harris, and I have ancestors going back to pre 1700.  I would like to understand more about them, and in order to do so, I need to understand more than I do.  I am currently unemployed and therefore have time to devote to helping the project move along, which in turn will educate me to better understand this environment.
Hi Julia!

Thank you for your interest in the England Project! I am sending you a private message with instructions for getting started.

I'm very interested in joining this project myself as a descendent of a number of individuals from England.

I've reviewed the project page and, from what I can see, I believe that I meet the requirements for joining.

Good afternoon! I am interested in joining the England Project as I am descended from several English families, mainly the Tiltons and Middletons. The Middletons were a Quaker family. I'm also interested in joining to, in a way, remember my grandmother, who was very proud of her English heritage. We both enjoyed drinking English breakfast tea, and her stories of her family always fascinated me.

Take care and stay safe,

Most of my maternal lines came from England - some late 1800’s but most much earlier. Would like to work with someone as have had a few brick walls.

Hello! I'd love to join the England Project. I was a member of the Orphan Trail a while ago, but it was a busy time in my life and I was unable to complete it. I'd love to rejoin and begin again. Thanks!

Hi,

I am very interested in the England Project and getting started on the unique Orphan Trail. I have talked to a couple of people that have told me that this is a wonderful learning experience, and that is exactly what I am looking for.

Thanks so much for considering me.

Hi I am English and resident here. I have old family trees from a great aunt tracing back to Kennedy (N Ireland out of Ayrshire) Christian (IOM) and Nicolas (Migrants from France after the revocation of the edict of Nantes). If these trees are accurate, and they are not fault free, I can trace Christians back to 1422, Nicolas and Kennedy back to 1700ish.

Hi Frances, I would like to rejoin the England team and become a recruit (again) for the OT. I had time restraints last year when I first applied that required me to take a long break - I can now be sure to stay the course, as those restraints are gone (I have  had to stop working - permanently). My genealogy interest stretches back 15+ years, all England, mainly Kent (member KFHS) & East Sussex (member SFHG), but also London, Earls Colne, Essex, a splash of Somerset/Dorset & Wymeswold, Leicestershire. I enjoy transcribing old wills & have helped in small way recently with the PPP of Denne & Tufton that The England Team was involved with earlier this year. Ideally my future aims would be to learn more Wikiskills so as to one day become pre-1500 certified & help tend, feed & prune one big, healthy Wikitree.

I am interested in joining The England Project. Although my grandmother was born in England, my roots go back hundreds of years, some tangled, some not so much...but it sure would be fun to help get them all smoothed out. Would it be a bad thing to mention my Scottish heritage??
by William Knowles G2G2 (2.5k points)
Hi Bill!

No, you can mention your Scots all you want and nobody will mind! lol

I would also like to join in the England project and would be happy to help with the orphaned files. I enjoy the history and finally have time to invest in doing the research.
