Searching the 1939 register on https://www.findmypast.co.uk for the name Albert Cox with the date of birth you give above brings up an Albert B Cox living in Church Road Cottage in Chichester R.D. (Rural District). This district includes Emsworth and there is a Church Road there so I think this is him with the wrong middle initial. I don't have a subscription to Find My Past so can't see the image.

hi,

that sounds promising. i will have a look. thanks

EDIT

having looked at preview on fmp, as i dont have a sub either, there is another person listed as coe, ive searched this in ancestry and its frederick and mary j (alberts parents names) so pretty sure it is him. and the "b/d" is in fancy scroll so could be taken as either.
