My fathers surname is Hakes. There are a group of us trying to prove that all Hakes' in the United States are related and we can all be linked back to Solomon and Anna (Billings) Hakes.

Carole Partridge
My husband's surname. His family came from Broome County, New York. Although the word hake can refer to a kind of fish, the surname Hakes probably refers to a bill hook (or "bill"), a nasty weapon used in medieval warfare.
