The Neufeld name appeared for the first time in the Danzig Mennonite church records in 1694. The name was attributed originally to land reclaimed from the sea. The name was very common among the Mennonite congregations of Danzig & Prussia from where it spread to the United States, Canada & South America. Early Neufeld immigrants from Russia settled in central Kansas beginning in 1874. [edit]
