Biography

William Abbey was 75 years, 3 months, 22 days old at the time of his death. William enlisted in the Army from Mansfield, CT, in April 1775, served in the Revolutionary War and was at the capture of the Hessians at Trenton. One of his descendants, Mr. Gehial Hall Abbey, has the chest which he carried during his service in the revolution. On April 19th, 1818, he applied for a pension, at the time being a resident of Onondaga Co., NY. He seems to have been well-to-do, as he owned property worth $68.75 and owed but $12.00. His name is on the tablet in memory of the revolutionary soldiers of Onondaga County, in the Post Office at Syracuse, NY. The census of 1790 records him at Duanesburg, Albany Co., NY. His name is found in the land records of Onondaga County from 1804 to 1820. William Abbey and his wife had seven children. One of his sons, Nathan A. Abbey, was possibly disabled in some way, as he was dependent up on his father for support.

Gideon was born on 14 April 1758 in Mansfield City, Tolland, Connecticut, United States. He was the son of Gideon Abbe and Bathsheba (Smith) Abbe.^[1]

When Gideon was 17 he married on 5 June 1775 in Mansfield CT.^[2]

When Gideon was 19 he married Lydia Abigail Hall on 5 June 1777 in Mansfield City, Tolland, Connecticut, USA. The couple had one child: David (William) Abbey.^[3]

In June 1784, William Abbe was named Executor of his father Gideon Abbe's estate.^[4] By August 2, he is reported to have embezzled some of the estate and "absconded". ^[5] His brothers Solomon and Elijah were selected as administrators of the estate.

In 1812 Gideon (age about 53) was living.^[6]

Gideon died at the age of 75 on 6 August 1833 in Hall's Corners, New York, USA.^{[7][2][8][9][10][11][12]}

In 1861 Gideon (age about 102) was living in Thundridge, Hertfordshire, England.^[6]
