Biography

Hazel Wynell Adams Casteel (1932-2017)

Went by her middle name, Wynell.

Born in 1932 to Bill and Mattie Adams in Limestone County, Alabama, where she lived most of her life.

Married Martin Casteel on 19 Dec 1953.

Had one son, Greg Casteel, born 30 Sep 1965.

Her husband, Martin, died in 2010.

Lived in Athens, Limestone County, AL, with her son until her death.

Wynell had several siblings. Her full siblings were: Estelle (b. 1930) who married Roy Tucker; Marie (b. 1936) who married Eddie Showalter; Nora Lee (b. 1938; d. 1939); and Bobby (b. 1943) who married Brenda McMeans. Her half-siblings with the same mother (Mattie Casteel Moss Adams) but fathered by Cecil Moss were: Grady (b. 1922, d. 1995) who married Almarie Peek; Reba (b. 1924, d. 2014) who married Oather Peek; Nora, who is called "Snooks" (b. 1926) who married Robert Lee Madry; and an unnamed infant (dates unknown) who presumably died at birth. Her half-siblings with the same father (Bill Adams) but with different mothers were: Mary Lois, who married a Goode; Ila Elizabeth, who married a Haggard; Georgia Edna who married a Sides; Bertha Mae who married a Lovell; and Ottie Lou who married a Moore; as well as a few others who either died at birth or in infancy.

Wynell died on Monday, 18 September 2017, at her home in Athens, Limestone County, Alabama after a long battle with Alzheimer's Dementia. She was buried on 22 September 2017 in the Roselawn Cemetery in Athens, Limestone County, Alabama.

Greg Casteel
For some reason, WikiTree doesn't seem to have a good way of handling people who go by their middle name. If you list the middle name as the "Preferred First Name" the name shown in their public profile is their middle name followed by their middle initial. If you list the middle name as a nickname, it's not shown at all in their public profile, but it appears twice in their private profile. There's got to be a better way of handling this. (And, since many of my relatives go by their middle names, I am encountering this problem over and over again.)
