Genealogy has been an avocation for me most of my life. As I look toward retirement in the next few years, I suspect I will segue into genealogy as a profession.
I was blessed with two grandmothers who loved genealogy. One of them copied family bible data belonging to a relative and kept that information in her own bible. I am still working to prove that line, which is an as yet unaccepted Mayflower line. Maybe this is the year, probably 80 or more years after my grandmother saved the data. (Update, 2019 was the year! My supplement to Richard Warren was accepted!)
One of my early memories is my parents writing to their mothers about family history. We had moved from Vermont, where the family had lived for many generations (like 9) to Pennsylvania, and living in a different culture (Pennsylvania Dutch) encouraged my parents to remember their own roots. Both of my grandmothers complied, and that became the beginning of what is now a fairly large database of about 12,000 ancestors.
Both my parents caught the bug, and I remember as a teenager driving long distances with them to repositories, to look at the census, and find original records. We'd go to the family history center too; this is before the internet, but LDS had the IGI. I learned the difference between primary sources and secondary sources, and why they are always preferred to compilations by amateurs like the IGI. Ancestry, com, with all its good points, is still fraught with error, and while I use it (at a local library as I won't pay for it), it is just a tool to find the real sources. Lookiing at other people's trees is a short cut to research; to get it right you have to do the research yourself.
Early in one's quest in family history, it is common just to try to flesh out that five generation chart. It is an important goal, but one learns after a few years (or decades) not to ignore the siblings and the uncles and aunts, the next door neighbors, and the community and times they lived in. Your family tree is a lot more than a bunch of names and dates. It is your own history.
Have moved back to Vermont, actually twice now, as it is such a part of who I am. i am active in a number of genealogical / heritage societies. Past Governor of the Vermont Society of Mayflower Descendants. Vice President, Genealogical Society of Vermont. More.
I am interested in Mayflower roots, Vermont and New England ancestry, Huguenot, Roger Williams & Rhode Island ancestry, Quaker, Plantagenet, Magna Charta barons and European nobility and royalty. Vermont may be my long suit.
I strive to connect, source, and integrate. Always still learning.Have you taken a DNA test? If so, login to add it. If not, see our friends at Ancestry DNA.

Thank you for contributing to the December 2021 Sourcerers Challenge! As you know, every source added to an unsourced profile improves our One Tree. Thank you for taking time from your own family history to help others.
Nan, WT Appreciation Team
I am checking in on behalf of the 1776 Project to announce the new project membership requirements and to verify that you are still interested in being a member of the project. All project members are being asked to join one of the project teams and also to make at least one project contribution every 6 months. We are also asking all project members to join the project's Google Group for project communications.
If you are interested in remaining with the Project, please reply to this comment or send me a message, request to join the Google Group, and let us know what team you would like to participate on.
We really appreciate your contributions on WikiTree, and thank you for all your hard work. If you have any questions, please ask. We would also love to hear any feedback you may have for the project.
If we don't hear back from you we will assume that you no longer wish to participate in the project and if so, you could rejoin at any time as is convenient for you.
We look forward to hearing from you soon!

I noticed that you recently merged one of my 4 x great grandfather Benjamin Andress with another Benjamin Andress posted by Carol Van Sickle. I also noticed that you used mainly my biography and I don’t believe you used much of Carol’s. Is this the case? I have been away until recently and I asked Carol to please make this merge for us. I believe Carol’s profile included some very useful information and sources for Benjamin and I believe they should be included in the one Benjamin Andress profile.
Are you related to this family line?
I looked briefly at your family tree and descendants of your family in MyHeritage. I am not very competent at navigating its site.
Many of my English ancestors came from Connecticut and seem to have been part of the original settlers in Massachusetts. I am not at all familiar with a lot of their surnames but I did recognize the name Babcock in your list of surnames. One of Lydia Andresses sisters married a Mott here in Ontario. They moved to the North Crosby area along with Lydia and her husband Eniel Palmer. I believe the Babcocks (another UEL family) are descended from the Andress Mott couple.
Unfortunately I cannot afford to be a premium member of my heritage. As a consequence, myheritage says my family tree is too big and they have blocked me from including most of my mother’s family’s surnames. My tree is more complete on familysearch.com. I could send you a list of family surnames if that would help. I had my DNA tested with my heritage and you could maybe find out if we share any DNA......but I suspect our connection may be too ancient to have much DNA in common.
Keep well and safe in these troubled times, Shirley
My difficulty with Benjamin is his birthday. If he was born in 1775, he could not be the father of my Lydia Andress as she was born in 1784. However, from all the Leeds County Censuses that I have uncovered and that Carol has uncovered, her father‘s name was indeed Benjamin. If Benjamin was born in 1765 or 1768, he could have been a very young father and his wife Deborah was probably equally young if not younger.
I cannot solve this dilemma right now so I will just leave it alone. I do want to share with you some of my Anderson kin but I will do that in a personal message as it will take up too much space here. Cheers Shirley

Thanks for proposing the merge of the duplicate record. As you note, I am quite new to Wikitree, though did not spot the duplicate record as I created this one. Very happy to approve the merge. I am working my way through a Gedcom file of around 3,000 records and when complete, will begin to add more of the Kimball family which I have researched over a number of years on my tree at Ancestry. I am in touch with a number of Kimball descendants in the States (related through my maternal grandmother's family) though I live just outside Cambridge, UK - around 30 minutes' drive from the area of Suffolk from where the original Kimball family emigrated from (I have yet to visit the villages!). Thanks again. Brian
I noticed that you used the Challenge Tracker to track a change during a recent Saturday Sourcing Sprint. Please consider officially joining us for the Saturday Sourcing Sprints. You can find information, including how to join, on the Sprints Help page.
No pressure, every profile with a source makes our WikiTree better. Your work will continue to be included in the Tracking Sheet's Unregistered total at the bottom of the help page if you do not register.
Your work is appreciated. Thanks for sourcing!
