James Adams was born on 17 March 1777 in Boothbay, Maine. His parents were Samuel Adams and Sarah (Reed) Adams[1].
He married Mehitable Tibbetts on 19 January 1809 in Boothbay[2]. They had fourteen children, twelve of whom survived to adulthood[3]:

2. Elizabeth, born 22 Dec 1810; married Payson Tibbetts
3. Catherine, born 19 Mar 1813; married N. C. Reed
4. Mary Sales, born 15 Mar 1815; married 1st Joel Beath, 2nd Augustus Whittaker
5. James, born 24 Feb 1817
6. George, born 9 Apr 1819; married 1st Sarah Chadbourne, 2nd Melvina Golder
7. Jane Chase, born 2 Nov 1821; married John Holton
8. Lydia Ann, born 1 Dec 1823; died 1840
9. Charles Fisher, born 19 Jan 1826; died 1839
10. John Sewall, born Nov 1829; married Charlotte Buck
11. Willard, born 14 Apr 1832; married Mrs. Mary Linscott
12. Emily Louisa, born 17 Sep 1834; married David Adams
James passed away on 9 October 1868 in Boothbay[4] and is buried in Kenniston Cemetery[5].
