Fairfax County was formed June 19, 1742 from the northern part of Prince William County. It was named after Thomas Fairfax, 6th Lord Fairfax of Cameron (1693–1781), proprietor of the Northern Neck. So it was July 16, 1742, that Lord Thomas Fairfax granted 420 acres of land on Broad Run to George Adams lying in that part of “Prince William County” that became Fairfax. This extends from the drains of the Cedar Branch of Bull Run to the head of the Piney Branch of Bull Run and crosses the South Run of Broad Run. This tract, surveyed by John Warner, appears to be located just south of present-day Lenah and west of Stone Ridge. George Adams’ tract is bounded by lands of Henry Norman on the north side, John Ralls to the south, and the Col. Carter family’s 41,000-acre Bull Run tract to the west.
His sons Matthew, John, Abraham, Isaac, and Daniel all migrated to North Carolina between 1772 and 1778. Jacob appears to have migrated to Patrick Co. VA based on various deeds involving land sales in Fauquier Co. We have no information on George Jr after about 1764 when he is a chain carrier for Henry Holtzclaw's land survey on Broad Run along with Benjamin Bristow.
