Herbert was the son of William Edward Adkins and Lola Clementine Cook[1]
Herbert John "SKU" ADKINS was very young when the family moved to Denton, TX. He grew up there and entered the Navy in World War II. It was during his Navy career that he met and married his wife, Grace Hildebrand from PA, a lady in the Navy after the war. They returned to York, PA where they were in the Grocery Business with her parents until the chain stores moved in. He took a job with a roofing company and transferred eventually to Savannah, GA.
During WW II, Grace Hildebrand became a lady in the Navy. One night in San Diego, CA Grace saw a big handsome Navy man asleep on a bench. On a dare she rolled him off - she later married him. This was Herbert J. Adkins.
