I have read that John Allen was a Quaker in Dublin, and that his livelihood was masonry, carpentry, for builders, and that while alive he served to instruct his teenage son, John, in those skills, which led to the son having proficiency very much in demand in the new Pennsylvania Colony. These basic skills were also evident in the sons and descendants of John Allen the immigrant.
