Following shared by Gloria Kellerhals: I think you will enjoy this story about Rev / Dr Beverly Allen, brother of Joseph Allen (my ancestor). He killed the first USMarshal in GA. Robert Forsyth.

Beverly and his brother William went to Augusta for farm supplies in the spring which was the habit of farmers. (Farmers bought on credit and would pay when crops came in). Beverly did not pay but came in to the store the next year wanting supplies. The storekeeper demanded he pay before extending more credit. Beverly refused and went to where they were staying overnight. The storekeeper got Marshal Forsyth to arrest Beverly and the Marshal went to the boarding house. He knocked on Beverly’s door and announced what he wanted. Beverly told him if he came in, he would kill him. The Marshall opened the door and Beverly killed him. He was put in jail for the murder and his congregation broke him out. He fled to Edisto Island SC. to preach again for several years. He returned to his home area and was arrested again. Once again his old congregation/friends helped him to escape to Kentucky and a town “at the end of the earth.” There he became a doctor and an honored member of the community.
