May 18, 1901, Waverly Journal
Miss Stella Allen, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jonathan Allen, died at her home in this city Wednesday evening, May 8. Several years ago she fell from a hammock and as a result she has been afflicted ever since with spinal trouble. In 1888 she was taken to the National hospital in Indiana for treatment and remained there for fifteen months, but failing to get the desired relief she again returned home. It is supported her spinal trouble had caused some injury to the heart and a severe attack of the grip the past winter resulted in dropsy of the heart causing her death. She was ever a patient and affectionate girl and had made a wide circle of friends. Her illness was borne with great patience and Christian fortitude and she often expressed her trust and faith in her heavenly master. She was always attentive to her Christian duties when her health would permit and she was always ready and willing to do her part. She leaves to mourn her loss a father, mother and two brothers besides many relatives and friends who will sadly recall her gentle and amiable disposition and her ever cheerful and friendly manners.
The funeral was held at the home last Friday afternoon and was conducted by Rev. Bugbey. Interment in East cemetery. [1]
