Roscoe is the child of Jonathan Allen and Etna King. [1]
"The deceased was born in Waverly November 13, 1888, the youngest of three children born to Mr. and Mrs. Jonathan Allen. The years of his early youth were passed in his native town. In 1903 he yielded to a desire to assume the responsibilities of life and accepted a position in Danville. Three years later he came to Pawnee and entered the office of the Baker Lumber Co., remaining in that commercial relation until forced by illness to relinquish his duties.
On March 23, 1912, he was united in marriage with Miss Gladys Brooks. Scarcely had the honeymoon attained its zenith when a fatal illness seized him in relentless grasp and the intervening months have witnessed a pitifully heroic struggle against the inevitable. Its memory will remain as the shadow of one of life's darkest tragedies in the months of those who have watched the steady encroachment of the dread malady, its progress has been retarded by all maneuvers known to science and for several months, prior to a few weeks ago, he was under treatment at the Ottawa tent colony. Returning to his home here he immediately entered upon a steady decline that was scarcely interrupted by faint rays of hope, yet, wasted as he was in body, he maintained a wonderful strength of spirit and mental force. Surviving are the wife, and one brother H. Allen.
Brief funeral services were held at the home yesterday (Wednesday) morning at 7:15 o'clock, Rev. S. M. Morton, pastor of the Presbyterian church officiating. At their conclusion the remains were conveyed to Waverly for interment. Simple but impressive burial rites were said at the cemetery by Rev. L. A. Holp, pastor of the Waverly Congregational church. Six young men, business and social associates of the deceased, acted as pall bearers.
Pawnee Herald, date unknown" [2]
He is buried in Waverly East Cemetery, Morgan Co, IL[2]
