Biography
Her father Capt in Union Army was home on leave when 3 CSA soldiers killed 3 union soldiers and dressed in their uniforms. Capt McCaleb thinking they were some of his own men went out to talk to them. Just as he did so Catherine came across the doorway and took a bullet meant for her father. She carried that bullet until her death. Story told by Margaret to her son Clifford Earl Maddux.
She wrote for several papers at the time as the "Maid of Cane Creek". Margaret says Capt McCaleb her grandfather taught her to read.
Margaret writes in her memoirs that in October 1962 she was the only one is this family still living along with one sister-in-law Ura Gentry Allison
