Biography

Thomas was born about 1725. He passed away in 1809/10.

Thomas was one of six Allred men living in North Carolina in the 1750's from which most Allreds can trace their roots.

From the Find A Grave Memorial (by Dennis York):

"Thomas ALLRED was the son of Solomon ALLRED I and his wife Ann YORK, sister of Jeremiah YORK I. No one has documented when or where Thomas ALLRED was born. Most likely it was in West Nottingham, Chester County, Pennsylvania because we know his father, Solomon ALLRED I was living there based on the tax records. But, again, that is just a guess. Most likely it was in the mid 1720’s but that is purely a guess based on the birth of his oldest child.

It is believed but not documented that Thomas ALLRED most likely had migrated westward into Frederick County, Maryland where his brother William ALLRED had purchased land. This most likely was on Antietam Creek near the Potomac River where other Allred families and friends most likely lived. His older brother, William ALLRED, owned land there but that does not mean Thomas ALLRED ever lived there but it is a good probability that these ALLRED families stayed together.

However, genealogist Dennis York believes it is very likely that the wife of Thomas ALLRED was Sarah 'Elizabeth' YORK, daughter of Jeremiah YORK I. Jeremiah YORK I and Solomon ALLRED I were good friends and neighbors back in Chester County, Pennsylvania per the 1724 Tax List. It is proposed but not documented that in about 1752 in Terrapin Neck, Colonial Frederick County, Virginia (now Jefferson County, West Virginia) that Sarah 'Elizabeth' York age eighteen married her neighbor Thomas ALLRED age about twenty seven. These same families later all lived in the same Sandy Creek Community of what is today Randolph County, North Carolina. Once in North Carolina, the Solomon ALLRED I and Jeremiah YORK I lands bordered each other, so they remained neighbors and friends.

No one has found any documentation to prove or disprove who Thomas Allred’s wife was or when or where they married. People see the will of Thomas ALLRED which names his wife Elizabeth, may assume Elizabeth was his only wife. It is also noted by researchers that there is no evidence of an Elizabeth Twiggs or a Twiggs family ever existing in Randolph County, North Carolina.

"No one knows who Thomas’ wife was or what her name was (because of the lack of documentation). Yes, there are lots of family histories that claim she was Elizabeth Twiggs but that has not been proven either. She may have been named Elizabeth Twiggs – I don’t know. No one knows. No documentation has been found." No records of Randolph County have ever revealed the existence of a Twiggs family living there....Linda Allred Cooper(MyAAllredFamily.com)

It is suggested that the first daughter Sarah ALLRED was not listed in her father's will because she had already received her inheritance before the will of 1809. It is believed by genealogist Dennis York that daughter Sarah ALLRED was likely named after Thomas ALLRED's proposed wife Sarah 'Elizabeth' YORK. There are land transactions recorded between Jeremiah YORK III and Thomas ALLRED that supports this scenario.

Furthermore, Genealogist Dawnell Hatton Griffin is convinced Sarah ALLRED (Sarah Lydia Esther ALLRED, #148758219) who married Jeremiah YORK III (# 147641371) is the daughter of the brother Solomon Allred III and his wife Mary Hays. Therefore, I am honoring her scenario out of my respect for her years of excellent Allred research.

John Allred's first land grant names Thomas, leading us to believe Thomas was living with him at the time (March 15, 1755). A land record dated March 10, 1788 (Guilford Co, NC Deeds, Book 4, Page 13) tells us that Thomas had bought 144 acres from John Allred sometime prior to the date and was now selling it to Jeremiah York. A land record dated September 1, 1788 that shows Thomas Allred and his wife, Elizabeth, sold land to James Allred. Again, this is part of the land that Thomas bought from John Allred prior to this date."

Will dated 8 Nov 1809, proved May 1810, (Book 3, p. 188) names wife Elizabeth, children James, William, Elias, John, Moses, Levi, Eli, Rachel Brown and Elizabeth Jones, grandson William, son of Elias.

Thomas Allred's Will: (transcribed as written) In the name of God Amen I Thomas Allred of Randolph County and State of North Carolina being in a low state of health but of perfect mind and memory thanks be to God for it calling to mind the mortality of the body and knowing that it is appointed for all men once to die and touching such worldly estate as it hath pleased God to Endow me with I give and dispose of the same in manner and form hearin after mentioned hearby revoking and disanuling all former wills and testaments by me made allowing and confirming this to be my last will and testament principly and first of all I recommend my Soul unto the hands of Allmighty God who gave it to my body to the Earth to be buried at the discretion of my friends. DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Thomas by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Thomas:

Allred-1560 and Allred-1515 appear to represent the same person because: The manager of Allred--1560. Proposed the merge. Clearly same person. Just because a dispute has existed about his wife doesn't mean the merge should be rejected. Like one of the 1515. Managers did. So I removed the rejection so the merger can be done..

Allred-1560 and Allred-1515 do not represent the same person because: Until further documentation proves the wife the profiles will not be merged.
Allred-1560 and Allred-1515 appear to represent the same person because: Wife/wives disputed, but this is obviously the same person and should only have one profile. Previous suggestion rejected because the numbers were backward. Please merge. Thank you.

It seems clear to me from the sources and recent work in Allred family genealogy that Allred-1515 and Allred-1560 are the same man (hence the request for a merge) but that the question is about who was his wife. The sources all say that there is only theory and no definitive proof for either Elizabeth Twiggs or Sarah Elizabeth York. I have moved the merge from rejected (because they ARE the same man) to unmerged match. The current info should appear here on Wikitree, it's just a question of how to show it.
Allred-1515 and Allred-1560 do not represent the same person because: There is still to much different info for a merge

Allred-1515 and Allred-1560 appear to represent the same person because: They are close enough now to merge, and they both reference the same FAG memorial, with Sarah E. York as his wife, though it seems there may still be no clear conclusion on who his wife/wives were but definitely same husband here

at end of will stated in this profile it says in presents of Joseph Allred his Enoch Davis then Thomas Allred. .

this implies his friend Enoch Davis. so am removing him from name. also adding parents from other profiles documented. don't think Solomon had Thomas when he was fifty. Thomas father is John born 1706. Solomons grandson was a John born in 1725. to his daughter Elizabeth and Samuel Finley. but has Allred as surname since illegitimate..

Comment from researchers affiliated with the Allred Family Organization website: "It's been proven that that line back to Thomas for Thomas (Jr) is incorrect, with documentation that shows his father as Solomon 1734. As I said, many people are using the old tree from an Allred book written many years ago". I do not have this documentation, but when I put my hands on it I'll present it here.

What is the source of the middle names given to this Thomas Allred?

Allred-1381 and Allred-1050 appear to represent the same person because: Similar data and Same FindAGrave source
Alred-38 and Allred-1050 appear to represent the same person because: Although these each list different wives, they both have all the same children. According to the Allred Family Association, Thomas had two wives, and the second one was Elizabeth, but no proof that she was a Twiggs. His children are all from his unknown first wife. Also no proof that his wife was Sarah Elizabeth York. I suspect that people are guessing about the wives. But since the list of children is the same, the subject of these two profiles must be the same Thomas Allred.
