Biography

Born Apr 11 1830 in Spartanburg SC, Died Apr 07 1902 in Litchfield Grayson Co Ky.

Married Martha J Kerr in 1851 in White Co. Tennessee and had 8 children.

Thomas Alverson enrolled in the 17th Infantry on October 28, 1861. He was mustered in on January 4, 1862 at Calhoun for a three year enlistment in Company F. He was 1st Sergeant of Company E prior to consolidation, the 1st Sergeant Company E. Promoted 2nd Lieutenant Company K, 1 July, 1863 in Manchester, Tenn. and 1st Lieutenant Company F, May 16, 1864 at Kenashaw Mountain, Georgia. He resigned on May 16, 1864. Thomas J. Alverson; 1st Lt. Co. C.

Residence in 1860 pre-war was Grayson County Ky, and continued through death. According to 1900 census, had been Married to Melissa Jane Mattingly Harris for 11 years. Melissa and Thomas had one son together born in 1890, Benjamin Harrison Alverson, who died in 1971 and is buried in Goshen Cemetery, Richmond Indiana. Thomases date of death is listed as 7 Apr 1902.
