?Update on Early David Alvises?
Fourth Generation (3-4 men)
David ?of Elijah,? was so called when he acted as a surety in 1805 in Goochland Co VA. He was probably born ca 1785, the son of Elijah & Elizabeth Clarke. He probably appeared in Goochland Co tax lists in 1804-7 (aged over 16) more than once with his father and maybe once with Judith, the widow of his uncle Shadrach, in 1809, in Campbell Co VA 1804-7, 10-14, and in Buckingham Co by 1810, when he was listed in the census: 00010/00000. Although his wife was not listed in this census, he married 24 Jul 1809 Nancy Robinson in Cumberland Co VA; a recent record located by Ann Avery Hunter shows that the David of this marriage record is the David who went to Mercer Co. He married, second, ca 1838 Mary Thomas possibly in Giles Co VA; Polly Thomas Alvis married, secondly, 21 Apr 1855 Isaac Ganoe, Mercer Co WV. David?s 1820 and 1830 censuses have not been located, nor have the 1840 listings for his older sons. 1840 census Giles Co VA: 10000001/000001, 1850 census Mercer Co ?Davis?: b 1785, wife Mary. See issue 32-5.
