Biography

Jane was born in 1797 in Fayette, now Maine, the daughter of Deacon Joseph Anderson and Lydia Smith.

She married Cyrus Soper at Fayette, Maine on 27 Aug 1826. They were the parents of two known children:

  • Joseph Anderson Soper b. 23 Dec 1829 at Chesterville, Maine, d. 20 Aug 1904 at Worcester, Massachusetts
  • Elzina V Soper b. 1832 at Chesterville, Maine, d. 27 Jul 1902 at Winthrop, Maine.

The 1850 US census for Mount Vernon, Maine lists residents Cyrus Soaper [sic] (48), a farmer, his wife Jane (50), son Joseph A (20), a farmer, and daughter E.B. (18). Both children attended school within the past year. Cyrus owns property valued at $500.

The 1860 US census for Mount Vernon, Maine lists residents Cyrus Soper (58), a farmer, his wife Jane (61) and son Joseph A (28), a carpenter with real estate valued at $1000 and personal estate valued at $437.

The 1870 US census for Mount Vernon, Maine lists residents Cyrus Soper (68), a farmer, his wife Jane (72), their son Joseph A (40), a farmer, Lucius A Moulton (23), a farm laborer and Maria L Brown (21), a domestic servant. Cyrus has property valued at $ 1000 and a personal estate of $200 while Joseph has real estate valued at $1000 and a personal estate of $700.

The 1880 US census for Winthrop, Maine lists Cyrus Soper (78), a farm laborer and his wife Jane (82), noted as being blind, residing on the household of their daughter Elzina B Coombs (47), a widow, her son Elmer J Coombs (18), a farm laborer and son John B Coombs (11), a student. Farm laborer J L Armstrong (44) also resides with the family.

Records show that Jane passed away 5 Jan 1885.
