In the 1850 US Census [1] John Angel is shown to be a Blacksmith. Six of their eight children are at home. The last two have not yet been born.

John [aged 47] and his family, including his wife, himself, and six of his children are listed on the 1860 Census [2]

John enlisted for duty in the Civil War at the age of 42 according to what he told the recruitment office [he was more likely 49] on 11 Mar 1862. [3]

He died in 1862, likely due to battle or illness.
