Last Will and Testament of: Charles Angell

IN THE NAME OF GOD AMEN

I, Charles Angell, of Surry County in North Carolina, Planter being in perfect health of body and of perfect mind and memory thanks be given unto God. Calling to mind the mortality of my body and knowing that it is appointed for all men. once to die, do make and ordain this my last will and testament that is to say principally and first of all I give and recommend my Soul unto the hand of Almighty God that give it and my body I recommend to the Earth to be buried. in decent Christian burial at the discretion of my. execs. Nothing doubting but at the general resurrections. I will receive the same again by the Almighty power of God and as touching such worldly Estate Where-with it has pleased God to bless me in this life. I give; devise and dispose of the same in the following manner and form. (viz.) First, I give to Sybella my dearly beloved wife that part of my plantation that I now live on, lying on the South side of Dan River with all the improvements there on by her freely to be possessed and enjoyed during her lifetime and at the expiration of her life I give the same part of my plantation with all the land belonging to me on the south side of Dan River to my son Lawrence, freely 2 to be possessed and enjoyed by him. Also I give to my son Charles all that part of my plantation lying on the North side of Dan Rivet joining Noble Ladds land with his horse and saddle, his gun and one cow and calf freely to be possessed and enjoyed by him. Also I leave to my daughter, Rebecca her bed and one cow and calf and the rest of my personally estate after all my just debts are paid. .1 leave to be divided equally between my other three sons John, Josiah, and James each of them to receive their part as they come of age. Also I leave to each of my daughters that is married (viz) Mary Ozborn, Jemima Hensly, Elizabeth Cooke, Nancy Bierce, Frances Ransly, Sibela Hutchens, and Barbra Hensly one schilling sterling. Also likewise constitute make and ordain~Sibela my wife and Charles my son thesole execs. of this my last will and testament and I do hereby utterly disallow, revoke and disannul all and every other testaments, wills, legancies, and execs. by me in. anywise before named. Ratifying and confirming this and no other to be my last will and testament. In witness whereof I have set my hand and seal this 17th day of July, 1773.

Will: 2 Apr 1809, Danbury, Stokes County, NC; Will of Sybella Angel, Danbury, N.C. (Stokes County) Bk. 2, p. 137:

I, Sybella Angel, of the county of Stokes being weak of body but of perfect mind and memory, thanks unto God, calling unto mind the mortality of my body an d knowing it is appointed for all men and w6men once to die, make and ordain this my last will and testament, that is to say Principally, first of all I give and recommend my soul unto the hand of Almighty God that gave it, and my body I recommend to the earth to be buried in decent Christian burial at the discretion of my executors nothing doubting but at the general resurrection I shall receive the same again by the mighty power of God, and. as touching such worldly estate where with it has pleased God to bless me in this life, I give and demise and dispose of the same in the following manner and form: First, I give and bequeath to Jemima, my daughter, the sum of five shillings. lawful money of North Carolina to be raised and levied out of my estate; also I give to my well beloved daughter Elizabeth the sum of five shillings of the currency of our state. Likewise to my daughter Sibe the sum of five shillings, like wise to the heirs of my daughter Frances the sum of five shillings. Likewise I give and bequeath to my daughter Rebekah the sum of five shillings currency of the same, and also to my daughter, Barbara, I give and bequeath the sum of five shillings currency of our state. Like-wise unto my son Lawrence I give and bequeath the sum of five shillings currency of our state. Likewise unto my son John Angel I give and bequeath the same, that is. the sum of five shillings currency of our state. I also give and bequeath unto my son Josiah the sum of five shillings currency of our state, and also I give to my well-beloved sons, Charles and James Angel, whom I likewise constitute, make and ordain the sole executors of this my last will and testament, all and singular my property by them freely to be possessed and enjoyed. And I do hereby disallow, revoke, and disannul all and every other testament or former testaments, wills, legacies, bequests and executors in anywise before named, willed and bequeathed, ratifying and confirming this and no other to be my last will and testament in witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal, this the second day of April, in the year of our Lord 1809.
