Biography

He is the son of Issac Arnold and Abbie Dishman. [1]

Ralph owned a notable haberdashery in Washington and was in service of many notables, including the President of the United States. He either fitted or made the hats for two presidential inaugurations[2] - that of Herbert Hoover and Calvin Coolidge. He gave up that successful business to move to Massachusetts with his beloved wife, Helen, and start a dairy farm. There he stayed until his passing in 1992. His remains along with those of his deceased wife were transported to the Arnold Family plot in Pohick Cemetery in Lorton, Virginia[3][4]

Memories: 1
Enter a personal reminiscence or story.
We visited Uncle Ralph up in Bernardston, Mass. many times. I loved his farmhouse and playing in the barn. I often remember Dad sitting beside him as Uncle Ralph spun stories, reminiscing as he smoked his pipe - the smell of which I much preferred to my father's stinky cigarettes.

Whenever we visited him, my mother would harvest the rhubarb that grew wild around the perimeter of the barn. Uncle Ralph, if I remember correctly, used to tease her about it... but was still quite appreciative of the fresh rhubarb and strawberry rhubarb pies that she would make from them.
