George, son of James Arnott and Mary Turner, was born abt 1841 in Symenton, Ayrshire, Scotland,^[1] where his older siblings were born. The 1861 census 'only' states he wa born in Riccarton, Ayrshire, Scotland, ^[2] where his younger siblings were born.

In the 1851 census George (age 10) was the son of James Arnot on Not Numberd Old St, Riccarton, Ayrshire. He was a Tearer.^[1]

In the 1861 census George (age 20) was the son of James Arnst in Mo Donald Land, Riccarton, Ayrshire. He was a Coal Miner.^[2]

George Arnot married Margaret Mccallum on 26 Jul 1861 in Kilmarnock, Ayr, Scotland.^[3][4]

In the 1871 census George (age 30) was the head of household in Old Hurlford Townhead Row, Riccarton, Ayrshire. He was a Coal Miner.^[5]
