Minnie Miñoso was born about 1925 in Cuba. He passed away in Chicago, Illinois in 2015. He was the son of Carlos Arrieta and Cecilia Armas. [1] Minnie Miñoso was one of the first African-American Major League Baseball Players. He began his career in the Cuban Negro League, then joined the New York Cubans, one of the teams in the American version of a Negro League. [2] After the color barriers began to fall in 1951, he became the first black Cuban in the major leagues. He was a rookie for the Cleveland Indians. [3] He eventually was the first black player for the Chicago White Sox. He was one of the first Latin Americans to play in a Major League Baseball All-Star Game. [4]
