Malvina was born in 1832. She was the daughter of William Arthur and Malvina Stone. She passed away in 1920.
She was a sister of the 21st President of the United States, President Chester Alan Arthur.
Around 1853 Malvina and her sister, Almeda were teachers at the academy in Cahoes, Albany, New York. Both sisters while teaching stayed with their oldest sister Regina, who was married to William Caw. Chester was principle at the academy at the same time. Unfortunately the academy closed down.
She married Henry Josiah Haynesworth in 1854. They never had any children and he was not considered the best of providers which did not seem to bother Malvinia.
Malvina kept two diaries. One in the year of 1958 and another one in the year of 1869.
From the diaries Malvina portrays herself as a rather plain, moody, brooding young woman with a hypersensitivity and a penchant for hypochondria which often bordered on serious neurosis. She loathed her pious, ever stern father and reproached herself constantly for being unable to accept the Christianity he demanded
In 1883 she visited the White House briefly and was described as a semi-invalid seeking seclusion.
She remained childless, was widowed in 1892, and died insane in 1916.
