Royal Eleazer Asay was born Saturday, November 22, 1919 in Leslie, Idaho to Eleazer Asay and Henrietta Lapreal Busk.

He lived his early life in the Lost River Valley, attending school in Leslie & Mackay, participating in sports and band. During WWII, Royal proudly served in the Navy Armed Guard in the Pacific theater.

He served as an LDS Missionary in the Northern States Mission from 1940-1942, where he met Doris Pauline Sherred. They were married on June 12, 1943 in Detroit, Michigan. The marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple. They settled on the Asay Ranch in Lost River, Idaho.

Royal and Pauline moved to Phoenix, Arizona and raised three children: Rand Lowell Asay, Deon Darlene Carter, and Pamela JoAnn Strong.

They moved to Utah County in 1972. He retired from Mountain Bell Telephone after thirty-four years of service, working in both Arizona & Utah. Royal married Viola Bugg in July 2003. They lived in Lewisville, Idaho for four years.

He was a faithful life-time member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, serving many different callings in the service of others. Royal enjoyed fishing, hunting, or anything to do with the outdoors.

He was widely renowned for his gardening skills and incredible ability to fix absolutely anything. Anyone that Royal met was his immediate friend. He also never met a horse or a piece of candy that he didn't like.

Royal passed away on Tuesday, November 10, 2009 at Hobble Creek Care Center in Springville, Utah. He resided at 409 North 900 East in Orem, Utah at the time of his death.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Pauline, son Rand, and several siblings: Boyd, Wanda, Warren, Shirley, Ruth and Rhea. Royal was survived by his wife Viola, daughters Dee Carter and Pam Strong, daughter-in-law Judy Asay, brothers Melvin and Reed, his sister Lela Warner, nine grandchildren, twenty-five great-grandchildren, and eleven great-great-grandchildren. He is also the unofficial "Papa" of countless other grandchildren.

Calling hours were held on Sunday, November 15, 2009 from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Sundberg Olpin Mortuary located at 495 South State Street in Orem, and on Monday prior to the services at the Church from 12:00 until 12:45 p.m. Funeral Services will be held on Monday, November 16, 2009 a 1:00 p.m. in the Orem Orchard Third Ward Chapel of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints located at 810 East 600 North in Orem. Royal was laid to rest following the conclusion of the Funeral Services in the Orem City Cemetery, where Full Military Honors were accorded by VFW District #4. REST IN PEACE.
